What is Rope Access?

The advantage of using rope access methods mainly lies in the safety and speed with which workers can get to or from difficult locations and then carry out their work, often with minimal impact on other operations and the nearby area. Another major benefit is that the combination of the total man-hours and the level of risk for a particular task is often reduced when compared with other means of access and their associated risks and costs.  Many times, scaffolding and its associated manpower is eliminated, saving time and money on a project.

The primary objective when using rope access methods is to plan, manage and carry out the work with minimal accidents, incidents or dangerous occurrences, i.e. to ensure a safe system of work is maintained at all times, and with no damage to property or harm to the environment. MIG uses SPRAT standards and work procedures where members are required to follow and are monitored for compliance to ensure that a safe system of work is established and maintained throughout a project. This sets MIG Rope Access Technicians apart from rope access companies that are not subject to such rigorous standards.

Where is Rope Access Used?

Rope access was developed in the off-shore industry.  It was quickly recognized that there were many on-shore applications for work placement techniques that were safe, environmentally friendly and not intrusive.  Rope Access Technicians can be seen all around the world at work on great iconic buildings, both old and new, as well as your local city center or industrial and process facilities.  The ease with which rope access technicians can safely apply themselves to working at height means that architects and engineers can continue to design and construct even more challenging structures and buildings which prohibit the use of other forms of access.
